Truth Isn’t Relative: Why Jesus Is the Only Way

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.’”John 14:6 (NASB)

Introduction

We live in a world where truth is seen as subjective. You’ve probably heard it:

  • “Live your truth.”

  • “What’s true for you isn’t true for me.”

  • “All paths lead to God.”

This philosophy may sound tolerant, but it’s dangerous. Why? Because truth is not relative. It’s absolute. And Scripture makes one thing clear: Jesus Christ is the only way to God.

This message isn’t popular—but it’s eternal. In a generation confused by opinions and driven by feelings, the Bible cuts through the fog with divine clarity.

Prayer:

Before we begin, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ be sure that you have privately named your sins to God the Father using 1 John 1:9 (If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness).  You will then be in fellowship with God, filled with the Holy Spirit, and ready to learn Bible doctrine.  If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior, the issue is not naming your sins, but faith alone in Christ alone. John 3:36 (He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.)

The Problem: A Culture That Rejects Absolute Truth

Today’s culture elevates individual experience above objective reality. Relativism teaches that morality, identity, and even salvation are personal preferences.

But here’s the problem: If everything is true, then nothing is. Without an objective standard, we are left adrift—no foundation, no direction, no certainty.

“There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death.”Proverbs 14:12 (NASB)

This is not just a philosophical issue—it’s a spiritual crisis.

The Biblical Solution: Jesus Is the Exclusive Way to God

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”John 14:6 (NASB)

Jesus didn’t say He knew the way—He said He is the way.

1. The Way – The Only Path to Salvation

Jesus is not one of many options. He is the only door to eternal life (John 10:9). Other paths may seem spiritual, but they do not lead to the Father.

“And there is salvation in no one else…”Acts 4:12 (NASB)

2. The Truth – The Embodiment of Divine Reality

Truth is not a feeling. It’s a person—Jesus Christ. His life and teaching are the measuring stick for all other claims.

“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.”John 17:17 (NASB)

3. The Life – The Source of Eternal and Abundant Life

Without Christ, we are spiritually dead. Only through Him do we receive eternal life (John 3:36) and purpose here on earth.

Why This Offends – And Why That Matters

The exclusivity of Christ offends modern sensibilities because it confronts pride and dismantles self-reliance. But truth doesn’t exist to make us feel good—it exists to set us free (John 8:32).

Jesus isn’t intolerant—He’s honest. The cross wasn’t necessary if salvation could come by any other way. But it’s the only way sin could be justly dealt with.

Practical Application: Living Out Truth in a Relativistic World

1. Study the Word for Yourself

You won’t be able to defend truth unless you’re grounded in it. Regular intake of Bible doctrine under a sound pastor-teacher is essential

2. Speak Boldly—but with Grace

Truth without love is harsh. Love without truth is empty. Be firm in your convictions, but gentle in your tone (1 Peter 3:15).

3. Don’t Compromise for Acceptance

Jesus said the world would hate truth (John 15:18-19). Stand anyway. Your allegiance is to Christ, not to cultural comfort.

Reflection Questions

  • Do I truly believe Jesus is the only way—or have I allowed culture to shape my theology?

  • Am I more concerned with being liked or being loyal to truth?

  • How can I communicate Christ clearly to those who believe “all roads lead to heaven”?

Closing Encouragement

Truth is not up for debate. It is not fluid. It is not yours or mine to define. Truth is a person—Jesus Christ—and He alone leads to life. In a world drowning in confusion, be anchored in the certainty of the cross.

“Forever, Lord, Your word stands in heaven.”Psalm 119:89 (NASB)

Allow time to study Bible doctrine and prayer and apply what you learn to your life, but you can’t do this alone. You need a pastor-teacher. I recommend the teachings from Pastor R.B. Thieme II and his son R.B. Thieme III.. We cannot know the Will of God for our lives without understanding who and what he is! Knowledge builds trust, and trust builds knowledge.
