When God Says Wait: Trusting His Timing

When God Says Wait: Trusting His Timing

Waiting is hard. Whether you’re waiting for a job, a relationship, healing, a breakthrough, or direction, the silence can feel frustrating—even unbearable. You pray, you trust, but nothing seems to change.

Does this mean God isn’t listening?

Has He forgotten about you?

Is waiting just wasted time?

The truth is, God’s delays are not His denials. Waiting is never wasted when it’s in God’s hands. He is always working behind the scenes, even when we don’t see it.

“But those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength;

They will mount up with wings like eagles,

They will run and not get tired,

They will walk and not become weary.”

Isaiah 40:31

So, what do we do when God says wait?

Prayer:

Before we begin, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ be sure that you have privately named your sins to God the Father using 1 John 1:9 (If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness).  You will then be in fellowship with God, filled with the Holy Spirit, and ready to learn Bible doctrine.  If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior, the issue is not naming your sins, but faith alone in Christ alone. John 3:36 (He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.)

1. Why Does God Make Us Wait?

We often want instant answers and quick solutions, but God is more interested in growing our faith than granting our requests immediately. Here’s why waiting is part of His plan:

1. Waiting Strengthens Our Faith

When things happen instantly, we don’t learn trust—we just receive. But waiting teaches us to rely on God’s timing, not our own.

James 1:3-4

“Knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Every moment of waiting is an opportunity to deepen your trust in God’s character.

2. Waiting Aligns Us with God’s Best

Sometimes, what we’re waiting for isn’t ready—or we aren’t ready. God is preparing the right opportunity, the right person, or the right timing so that when the blessing comes, we can handle it.

Lamentations 3:25

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.”

Waiting isn’t a punishment; it’s God’s protection from something premature.

3. Waiting Shifts Our Focus from the Gift to the Giver

God doesn’t just want us to seek His hand (what He can do for us); He wants us to seek His heart. Waiting teaches us that He alone is our source of fulfillment—not the thing we’re waiting for.

Psalm 37:4

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

When we find joy in Him first, everything else falls into place.

2. How to Trust God While You Wait

Waiting isn’t passive—it’s an active trust in God’s timing. Here’s how you can wait well:

1. Keep Praying, Even When It Feels Silent

God may not answer how or when we expect, but He always hears us. Keep bringing your concerns to Him.

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

2. Stay in God’s Word

His promises remind us that He is faithful, even when the waiting feels long.

Psalm 119:105

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Let His Word guide you while you wait for what’s next.

3. Trust That Delays Have Purpose

Sometimes God’s “not yet” is a setup for something greater. If you knew what God knew, you’d trust His plan without hesitation.

Romans 8:28

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

4. Praise While You Wait

Waiting doesn’t have to be filled with frustration. It can be filled with worship. Trust God’s goodness now, even before you see the answer.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

“Though the fig tree does not blossom, and there is no fruit on the vines… Yet I will triumph in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.”

Praising in the waiting prepares you for the blessing.

3. The Blessing is in the Waiting

The waiting season is never wasted—it’s where God does His greatest work in us.

Abraham waited decades for God’s promise of a son (Genesis 21:1-2).

Joseph waited years in prison before stepping into his calling (Genesis 50:20).

David waited to become king even after he was anointed (1 Samuel 16).

Jesus waited for God’s perfect time to reveal His glory (John 7:6).

If God is making you wait, He is also making you stronger, wiser, and more dependent on Him.

Are you in a waiting season right now? How can you trust God more today?

If this encouraged you, share it with someone who needs a reminder that God’s timing is always perfect! 🙏✨

Conclusion

Allow time to study Bible doctrine and prayer and apply what you learn to your life, but you can’t do this alone. You need a pastor-teacher. I recommend the teachings from Pastor R.B. Thieme II and his son R.B. Thieme III.. We cannot know the Will of God for our lives without understanding who and what he is! Knowledge builds trust, and trust builds knowledge.
