He Is Risen: The Power and Promise of the Resurrection
Finding Purpose and Truth in the Empty Tomb
✝️ Opening Thought
Easter isn’t about bunnies or baskets—it’s about life conquering death. It’s about a stone rolled away and a risen Savior. In a world that constantly questions truth and purpose, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as the foundation of our hope, the validation of our faith, and the anchor of our eternity.
📖 What Is the Resurrection?
The resurrection of Jesus Christ refers to His literal, bodily rising from the dead three days after His crucifixion. It’s not symbolic—it’s historical, doctrinal, and powerful. It confirms that Jesus is who He said He is: the Son of God, the Savior of the world.
“He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.” — Matthew 28:6 (NASB)
Prayer:
Before we begin, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ be sure that you have privately named your sins to God the Father using 1 John 1:9 (If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness). You will then be in fellowship with God, filled with the Holy Spirit, and ready to learn Bible doctrine. If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior, the issue is not naming your sins, but faith alone in Christ alone. John 3:36 (He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.)
🕊️ The Resurrection in Scripture
➤ Old Testament Foreshadowing
Psalm 16:10 – “You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.”
Isaiah 53:10–11 – After death, the Suffering Servant will “see His offspring” and “prolong His days.”
➤ New Testament Fulfillment
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 – “Christ died for our sins… and was raised on the third day.”
Romans 4:25 – “He was raised because of our justification.”
📚 Digging Deeper: 1 Corinthians 15:20–22
“But the fact is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
For since by a man death came, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.”
🔍 Exegesis & Word Study
“Has been raised” (ἐγήγερται) – Perfect tense: it happened, and its results remain forever.
“First fruits” (ἀπαρχὴ) – A harvest term, meaning Jesus is the first of many resurrections to come.
Paul draws a theological contrast:
In Adam, we all die physically and spiritually.
In Christ, we are made alive—guaranteed a future resurrection.
🧠 What the Resurrection Means for Us
1. It Confirms Jesus Is God
Romans 1:4 — “Declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead.”
The resurrection isn’t just a miracle—it’s proof of His identity.
2. It Validates the Cross
Romans 4:25 — “Raised because of our justification.”
Without the resurrection, we’re still in our sins (1 Cor 15:17). But because He rose, the cross worked.
3. It Guarantees Our New Life
1 Peter 1:3 — “Born again to a living hope through the resurrection…”
We don’t just have forgiveness—we have a brand-new identity and eternal security.
4. It Secures Our Future Resurrection
Philippians 3:21 — “He will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body.”
What happened to Jesus is exactly what will happen to you if you’re in Christ.
💡 So What? Living in Resurrection Power
The resurrection isn’t just a past event. It’s a present reality for the believer.
🔹 Hope in Suffering
2 Corinthians 4:14 — “He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also…”
Even when life hurts, resurrection hope lifts us.
🔹 A Call to Holiness
Colossians 3:1 — “If you’ve been raised with Christ… set your minds on things above.”
If we’ve been raised, we live different. We walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh.
🔹 Boldness in Evangelism
Acts 17:31 — “God has furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”
This is our message to a dying world: Christ is risen. And that changes everything.
Allow time to study Bible doctrine and prayer and apply what you learn to your life, but you can’t do this alone. You need a pastor-teacher. I recommend the teachings from Pastor R.B. Thieme II and his son R.B. Thieme III.. We cannot know the Will of God for our lives without understanding who and what he is! Knowledge builds trust, and trust builds knowledge.
